Following his first visit last year to deliver on the course, Coerver® Coaching UK Director Scott Wright has been invited back to the Spanish capital to lecture on the MSc in Talent Identification and Development In Soccer Course which is jointly ran by the European University of Madrid (Universidad Europea) and the World’s biggest football club, Real Madrid CF.

Selected students from across the world apply to join the Real Madrid graduate school each year which provides the experience of the most important sports club in the world with world class academic support to offer a benchmark Master’s degree in the field of Football.

Coerver® Coaching UK Director Scott Wright said “It is a great honour to be invited back to present on the Real Madrid MSc course again. The initial invitation to present last year came about following a coach education clinic that I delivered in Valencia which was attended by then Rayo Vallacano U17 coach Jesus Martinez Bargueiras”.

“Following this clinic, I invited Jesus along with his colleagues Diego Montoya (Rayo Vallacano U19 coach) & Rubén Santiago Ruiz (Rayo Vallacano Match Analyst) to come over to visit Stoke City so they could see how not only an English professional academy operates but also to see how Coerver fits into that structure with Stoke being a Partner Club”.

“Jesus, Diego & Rubén were really impressed by the whole academy programme at Stoke and how Coerver fits into that elite player/coach development framework. With Diego being a faculty member of the Real Madrid MSc programme, he recommended to the course director, David Viejo to invite my-self and Stoke City FC Academy director Dave Wright to present on the course”.

“My-self and Dave traveled over to Madrid and delivered two theory and two practical sessions for the students, which included representation from a number of La Liga clubs, based on the Stoke City/Coerver academy training programme. The content was really well received and has led to a return invitation/visit this year”.

“The graduate school offers a unique opportunity for students with three MSc courses being offered in Sports Management, Sports Marketing & Talent ID/Coaching. All modules on the courses are based on how Real Madrid operates in those respective areas with the heads of those particular departments at the club also being part of the course management team”.

“As an example on the MSc in coaching course last year, in addition to David Vijeo, Miguel Pardeza who was the Sports Director of the club in charge of all football operations was joint course director. In addition to this various members of the Real Madrid staff will contribute to the course in addition to many other experts from across La Liga clubs and the Spanish Football Federation”.

“In addition to our delivery on the course, my-self and Dave were really well looked after and had VIP seats for the Champions League game against Galatasaray as well as being able to watch the UEFA Youth Champions League game between both clubs earlier in the day. We also had the opportunity to observe Real Madrid training across all age groups, had dialogue with coaching staff and had a behind the scenes tour of the training ground. We also visited the Spanish national training centre so it was very much a two way process in terms of sharing information, experience and expertise”.

“Looking ahead to this year’s course visit which takes place during the Easter break, I’m told that there are coaches from a number of La Liga clubs represented again including Athletico Bilbao, Sevilla and Levante. I’m really looking forward to presenting again and sharing some ideas and knowledge with this year’s students and of course catching up with the staff at the Real Madrid academy”.

Real Madrid MSc Course director David Viejo Romero said “Ourselves and the students were really happy with the course content that was delivered by Scott and Dave last year and feel that this added great value to our course. We look forward to this year’s visit with our new group of MSc students during Easter”.

Make sure to look out for up-dates on our website/social media channels regarding the course which will take place in Madrid during Easter.

Over 60 coaches from all levels of the game came together last week in Acocks Green in Birmingham for the latest installment of Free Coerver® UK Coach Education clinics that have been taking place this season.

Following previous clinics in Coventry and Surrey that were attended by over 150 coaches, Coerver® UK Director Scott Wright once again delivered the clinic which was themed on “Germany – World Cup Star Models”.

The clinic featured a theory presentation to give attendees an overview of the Coerver® programme and also featured detailed video analysis on how Germany won the World Cup with two particular areas being focused on in the build-up to the practical session which was themed “Press & Protect”.

Coerver® UK Director, Scott Wright said “Following the success of our previous free coach education clinics in Coventry and Surrey, it was great to deliver our latest one in Birmingham. With over 60 coaches attending from grassroots to professional level, some from as far afield as Swansea, it really shows that there is great demand for knowledge in the Coerver programme and we are fully committed to providing opportunities like this up and down the country”.

“We have yet again received tremendous feedback from the attendees in Birmingham and are in the process of scheduling a number of additional free coach education clinics. We look forward to working with many more enthusiastic and committed coaches like those that have attended so far this season”.

March 2015 Birmingham Coach Education Clinic – Attendee Feedback

“Thank you for the free session on Press & Protect the German way. I will be coaching most of this session on Saturday and most of my training with my team incorporates the Coerver techniques, skills, Drills now anyway. I really like the way the drills progress from no pressure to minimal non-contact then on to real scenario and also that using two feet is so important”.

“I can’t think of anything that Coerver doesn’t cover In some way so I can’t speak highly enough of this method. I am really impressed with all that you do so went out of my way to get as many of my Knowle under 11 team into your Wednesday Performance Academy at Solihull and the six lads that train with Dan, Nikki or Luke on Wednesdays at Solihull enjoy all the sessions enormously and even after only training for 3 months with your coaches I have seen improvements in them all”.

“I also attended your course at Stoke FC a couple of months ago and that gave me a great base to work from and at 46 years old even I am improving (slightly!!), Thank you to you and your team and look forward to future courses with you”.
David Collins – Knowle JFC Under 11s

“Hi Guys, just a quick note and feedback from last night, I found the training session last night very inspirational and informative, myself and Sean have 100% bought in to the Coerver philosophy, and will be using some of the drills in our next training session at Coleshill Town Youth U7’s.

Roman and Daniel [Our sons] will hopefully joining the Coerver Performance Academy within the next 2 weeks, [once a place becomes available] keep me posted on this”.

Jamie Thomas (Via Twitter) – Swansea City FC Academy

“I found last night not only to be informative, along with good balance between theory and practical. Had a great time!”.
Jon Rodway – Parent of West Midlands Performance Academy Player

“Thanks for the Session last night, me and the lads really got a lot out of what you where saying and how Coerver and the skills should be taught and the reasoning and structure behind all of it. I have to say that I had read bits about it but most of all watched Daniel my son in with Nikki and I can see that its helping him massively with his confidence and also his footwork and technique”.

Following his appointment as club manager in August 2014, RC Genk manager, Alex McLeish (see below image) has been extremely impressed with the club’s highly acclaimed youth academy.

Speaking this week to Alan Brazil on talkSPORT about his experiences so far in Belgium, the former Scotland, Rangers, Birmingham City, Aston Villa & Nottingham Forest manager hailed the influence of the Coerver® Coaching programme on the clubs young players.

AMc – “When I came in we were 14th, struggling for confidence a little bit, we’re now up to 5th, hopefully on schedule for the play-offs. There has been a lot of young players blooded this season, the young lads have come through with flying colours, we have a good technical academy”.

AB – “Alex, give us the difference between some of the young players coming through in Belgium, than say back home in Scotland”.

AMc – “The way the boys are training at the Academy here is absolutely excellent. In terms of the technical training, the mastery of the ball, it’s brilliant training. You’ll probably remember the name Coerver, and it’s a kind of adaptation, of the Coerver stuff, taking it into game reality. I’ve played a 15 year old this season, its pure magic”.

RC Genk is well known for its outstanding youth academy and in 2003 began to build a new youth training centre next to the 25,000 capacity Cristal Arena, home of RC Genk.

A conveyor belt of talent has emerged from the academy, with a number of the current Belgian national team progressing through the ranks including Steven Defour (Porto FC), Thiabut Courtrois (Chelsea FC – see below image), Divock Origi (Liverpool FC – On loan at Lille OSC / Liverpool FC), Kevin De Bruyne (VfL Wolfsburg FC – see below image) and current club captain Jelle Vossen.

The latest product of the academy, Indy Boonen (see below image), has just been signed by Manchester United. Boonen, 16, is a left-footed attacking midfielder who often operates in the No. 10 role and has been training at Carrington for a few weeks after already being invited for sessions at Manchester City, Arsenal, Feyenoord and Wolfsburg. Already a youth international, Boonen has been tipped for a bright future and has put pen to paper on a 3 year contract with the Premier League giants.

With just seven weeks remaining until the 2015 Coerver® Coaching UK PRO Tour to Real Madrid CF, final preparations have been made in advance of the departure of 160 players, parents and staff who will be heading out to the Spanish capital for 4-days during the Easter break.

Following on from PRO Tours to Ajax and AC Milan during the last two years, this latest Tour is shaping up to be the best to date and is sure to be an unforgettable experience for all in attendance.

During the tour players, who will be kitted out in full Real Madrid training kit, will be participating in four training sessions with Real Madrid CF coaching staff at the world class training facilities at Ciudad Real Madrid in Valdebebas, home to all Real Madrid CF teams (see below image).

In addition to a guided tour of the facilities at Valdebebas, attendees will also have the opportunity to observe Real Madrid academy games that will be taking place while on site and staff will have the opportunity to speak with coaching staff at the club.

A tour of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium has also been organised as well as match tickets for the La Liga game between Real Madrid & Granada. In addition to the football side of the tour, there will also be free time for sightseeing in of the most iconic cities in the World.

Coerver® Coaching UK Director Scott Wright said “With only 7 weeks to go until we depart for Madrid, excitement is building and we are really looking forward to what I’m sure will prove to be an unbelievable four days for everyone who will be heading over from our programme in the UK”.

“Our PRO tours are one of the many benefits to being a member of our Performance Academy programme and following our previous European tours to Ajax and AC Milan, interest in the tour to Real Madrid was extremely high as you would expect”.

“This really will be a once in a lifetime experience for our players and I’m sure not many grassroots players and in fact professional players get the opportunity to train at the World’s biggest football club so they should be very excited for what is to come this Easter”.

“In addition to the training element, our group will be able to observe Real Madrid academy players in action that are the same age as themselves which I believe will be a great learning opportunity for them as they will see some of the best player in the world in their age group’s playing”.

“Our staff will also have the opportunity to speak with coaching staff at the club which again will prove to be a valuable educational experience on that side also”.

“Then having the chance to not only take a stadium tour at the Bernabéu but to go to a La Liga match with 80,000 people in the stadium and being able to see the likes of Ronaldo, Bale and the other Galacticos in action live really is a special opportunity for them that not many get to experience”.

Scott added “The benefits on the football side of the tour are clear to see but you also have the social and cultural side which for me is just an important for each players personal development”

“I have been lucky enough to visit the club and work in Madrid a number of times over the last five years and it is definitely one of the world’s great cities for culture, food, shopping and certainly football, so I believe this will be a great event for everyone that is fortunate enough to be taking part”.
