Charlie George from the Coerver® Coaching West London Performance Academy based in Kingston, is the latest in a long line of players to benefit from the Coerver® Coaching Performance Academy programme in the UK and progress into the professional football academy system. Having spent over a year attending a variety of Coerver® Coaching training sessions, Charlie has joined one of the biggest clubs in the world, Chelsea Football Club.

Ian Dyer, Technical Director for Coerver® Coaching in West London said “The overall aim of our Performance Academy programme is to develop skilled, confident and creative players who, regardless of their ability level are able to enjoy training, improve their individual skills, and develop a better understanding of when and where these skills can be used effectively in games”.

Ian Dyer, says “The programme prides itself on providing the best possible environment for the players to learn and develop. The environment we aim to create is one where our players feel confident to try new things, continue to show a desire to improve, and perhaps most importantly, value their performance, character and work rate over winning”.

Dyer adds, “It is a unique programme as first of all, we focus on the technique of the individual player, and then develop them to be effective within the team game. We use Star Models such as Messi, Van Persie and Xavi during each session, to inspire players to be the best they can be!”.

Charlie joined the Performance Academy in Kingston in 2013, and has been attending weekly sessions as well as holiday courses, and training trips to places like St. Georges Park and Stoke City F.C. Charlie was selected from many young hopefuls by Chelsea following a trial period, participating in training and playing matches against many of the country’s top teams, he even traveled to Paris to take on PSG.

Ian Dyer said of Charlie. “Charlie is a great example of a player who has worked extremely hard and really improved his technical skills to be able to compete at professional academy level. To make the step up, from playing grassroots football to joining one of the country’s top academies, is an amazing achievement by Charlie”.

“He has benefited immensely from the Performance Academy environment. His attitude, work rate and commitment to the programme have been excellent throughout, and this is reflected in his development. Our training programme has not only given Charlie a solid technical foundation to build on, but also the understanding of transferring his skills into game situations, which is the basis of the modern day Coerver Coaching programme”.

Everyone at Coerver® Coaching UK wishes Charlie all the best with his exciting new challenge at Chelsea F.C. I’m sure if he continues to apply himself, like he has with us, he will do very well.

Coerver® Coaching UK are delighted to announce that general on-line booking is now open for the new Play Like the Stars 1 v 1 coach education courses which will be taking place during November 2014.

This follows a priority booking window that was made exclusively available to previous attendees of the Coerver® Youth Diploma course and coaches that have registered their interest in attending the 2015 Youth Diploma course next summer.

Our new Play Like The Stars coach education course, in association with our global partner adidas® and our presenting partner FourFourTwo Performance will focus specifically on the topic of 1 v 1 and will provide attendees with our latest content in this most vital area of the game.

Four, 1-day courses will be delivered across the country at professional club training facilities with Birmingham City FC, Sheffield Wednesday FC, Millwall FC and Stoke City FC all hosting courses.

The courses will be delivered by Coerver® Coaching UK Director, Scott Wright (See above image – 2014 Youth Diploma – Fulham FC) who said “We are really looking forward to delivering our new Play Like The Stars course across the country next month. We have selected four areas of the country to host our courses which should be accessible within two hours of pretty much any part of the country so these are definitely our most accessible open coach education courses to date”.

“The topic we have chosen for our new course is 1 v 1 which is an absolutely crucial area of the modern game and is a teaching subject that we have championed for over 30 years. We have a vast amount of knowledge and resources within this topic area that we feel is vital for every coach of young players to know and understand”.

Scott added “Certainly from a personal point of view, this topic has had little to no coverage in any licensed coach education course that I have attended. When you consider this is an individual player quality that can really make the difference in the game with teams being ever more organised and difficult to break down, in my opinion 1 v 1 should form a key component of these courses, especially those that are aimed at coaches of young players but this doesn’t seem to be the case from my experience”.

“I’m sure that attendees of this course will find the content both useful and valuable to the development of the players that they work with, no matter the age or level of ability and they will leave the course with a good understanding of how to teach 1 v 1 from mastery to game effective use”.

Coerver® Coaching UK are delighted to announce that general booking is now open for the 2015 Youth Diploma course in England.

On-line booking was temporarily suspended this morning due to a technical issue caused by a high volume of bookings at 09:00 a.m. Our IT department have resolved the issue and bookings can now be made.

Following four hugely successful years since the course launched in 2011, the Youth Diploma will again be delivered exclusively by Coerver® Co-founder, Alf Galustian and will take place in Stoke, London & Birmingham between May-June 2015.

Coerver® Co-Founder, Alf Galustian – 2014 Coerver Youth Diploma – Fulham FC

Coerver® UK Director, Scott Wright said of the course “Over the last four years, our Youth Diploma course really has evolved into the must attend course for coaches working with young players at all levels. Attendees have traveled from twenty five different countries from around the world to date and our 2015 Youth Diploma courses are shaping up to be our biggest and best to date”.

Scott added “Due to the unprecedented interest we have had in the 2015 dates in England, we introduced a Priority Booking window which enabled coaches that registered an interest through our website to book before the dates were released generally which has happened this morning”.

Coerver® UK Director, Scott Wright – 2014 Coerver® Youth Diploma – Fulham FC

“This window was available between 09:00 a.m. on Monday 3rd November and 09:00 a.m. this morning (Wednesday 5th November). At the time of writing we have sold over 50% of all available places during the priority booking window which shows the huge level of interest in the course”.

“The course dates are still over 6 months away so this uptake reflects the fact that during the pre-registration period, we have had three inquiries for every place we actually have available. I must stress that if you want to attend the Youth Diploma course in England during 2015, you will need to book as soon as you can as we had many disappointing people who missed out in 2014”.

Coaches from across the country descended on Birmingham City FC’s Wasthills training ground at the weekend to take part in the pilot Coerver® Play Like The Stars 1 v 1 Coach Education course. This new course focuses specifically on the topic of 1 v 1 and provides attendees with the latest Coerver® content in this most vital area of the game.

Coaches from both grassroots and professional levels of the game were tutored by Coerver® UK director Scott Wright who delivered the full day course through a series of theory and practical sessions aimed at providing attendees with knowledge into how to teach 1 v 1 skills from mastery to game effective use.

Scott said of the pilot course in Birmingham “It was great to deliver the pilot course at Birmingham City FC on Saturday and fantastic to see coaches from all levels of the game in attendance”.

“Anyone that has been through a national or UEFA licensed course will know that the topic of 1 v 1
gets little to no coverage and we have a thirty plus year history of focusing on and teaching this topic. We feel that our new Play Like The Stars course goes some way to filling the knowledge gap left from the licensed courses in this most vital area of the game and it is knowledge that every coach of young players needs to have no matter the level that they work at”.

“1 v 1 always seems to be a topic that we work on with professional clubs, at their request, only last week we delivered CPD at Werder Bremen in Germany on this topic and in recent months we have also delivered national federation CPD for the Czech FA & Northern Ireland FA B licence, A Licence & Pro Licence courses so it shows that there is a real demand for this knowledge not only in the UK but also abroad”.

“We have three more courses in England, all at professional club venues, coming up in November and we are looking forward to travelling up and down the country to deliver this course and are looking forward to working with many coaches from all levels of the game”.

Grassroots Coach Pat Tomkins of Bustleholme Villans FC U9’s & Bustleholme Lions FC U11’s in Birmingham summed up the course:

“I feel that the Coerver Play like the stars 1 v 1 is an excellent course for coaches to attend and would be of interest to a coach of any age group but would be an invaluable tool for a coach in the “lower age groups” where they can really get the players to learn these essential skills. The course was delivered by Scott Wright who was an excellent tutor and was supported by the Coerver coaches who are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Overall I would score the course a ten out of ten and was the most useful course I have attended or been involved with and I look forward to attending future courses”.

Coaches from across the country travelled to South Yorkshire on Saturday to attend the second installment of the Coerver® Coaching Play Like The Stars 1 v 1 Coach Education course which was hosted in the steel city by Sheffield Wednesday FC.

Coaches from both grassroots and professional levels of the game were tutored by Coerver® UK director Scott Wright who delivered the full day course and said “It was fantastic to be able to come up to Sheffield to deliver our Play Like The Stars Course. Following on from our pilot course in Birmingham at the start of the month, we made some adjustments to the course which included extended the time by an hour and also introducing a player session at the end of the day where Sheffield Wednesday U10′s really did their club proud”.

Scott added “One of the beauties of our coach education courses is that we always have attendees from all levels of the game and from different parts of the country. This course in Sheffield was no different with representation from both professional clubs in the city as well as numerous grassroots clubs from many different areas of the country which always provides a great learning environment”.

“We also know that we are providing a course with an extremely important topic for all levels of the game in 1 v 1. With there being little to no focus on this topic in any of the national or UEFA licensed courses, we are providing attendees of this course with our latest knowledge in this topic which has evolved over the last thirty years with a focus on how to teach 1 v 1 skills from mastery to game effective use”.

“We now only have two more courses in England this year which take place in London this weekend and Stoke the following weekend and look forward to working with many more coaches from different levels of the game over the next couple of weeks”.

Following on from the first two Coerver® Coaching Play Like The Stars 1 v 1 Coach Education courses at Birmingham City FC and Sheffield Wednesday FC, two further courses have been completed at Millwall FC and Stoke City FC (see below images).

This rounds off a fantastic series of coach education courses, with over 160 coaches from all levels of the game attending four venues across the country during November 2014.

Attending coaches have been tutored by Coerver® UK director Scott Wright who delivered the full day courses and said “We always enjoy getting up and down the country to deliver our coach education courses and this series of 1 v 1 specific courses has been a huge success for us. We have received tremendous feedback from attendees who have come from grassroots to professional levels of the game and also a wide range of age groups that they work with”.

“We have ensured that the course content is relevant to the real world environment that our attendees are operating in. One thing is for sure, and that is the topics of 1 v 1 and ball mastery skills teaching are essential at every level and age group and with there being little to no focus on either of these topics in any of the national or UEFA licensed courses, we are definitely providing knowledge in vital areas of the game where there is a gap in the coach education system”.

“We will be looking to provide more coach education courses in 2015 through our new pathway and look forward to traveling up and down the country again and to visit some places we have not been to before to deliver our programme”.

“I would like to thank all attendees of the course as well as the players and coaching staff of Birmingham City FC, Sheffield Wednesday FC, Millwall FC & Stoke City FC for helping us to deliver such a great course”.

Play Like The Stars 1 v 1 Course Feedback:

“I have attended half a dozen Coerver courses over the last 4-5 years and always find them thought provoking and informative. Scott delivers both practically and theoretically in such detail that I always leave the courses wanting more.

“I would recommend the Play Like The Stars 1 v 1 course along with any other Coerver course to any coach wishing to develop and improve their understanding of player development and coaching”.

Mike Dodds
Lead Youth Development Coach
Birmingham City FC

“Hi Guys, just wanted to drop a mail to pass on our thanks and report back on once again a quality Course by Scott Wright at Coerver Coaching UK. James, Andy and my-self travelled to Sheffield from North Lincolnshire to attend another great Coerver Course, following on from our Youth Diploma at Stoke City”.

“We have been using Coerver in our Grassroots U9 team since U7′s with huge success in both Mini Soccer & Futsal. We feel the squad have become very technical players under the Coerver methods with a massive increase in confidence levels being noted during their Golden Years of learning”.

“I think a massive positive is the clear and concise way in which Scott explains the ideology. His passion shines through in his delivery, keeping us all hanging onto his every word of wisdom. Something Scott said and we stand by: “If you believe it, teach it”. We believe in Coerver and we teach it, roll on Youth Diploma 2!”.

Mark Davis
Immingham Pilgrims AFC

“The Coerver Play Like The Stars course was very enjoyable & informative and was delivered in a passionate & enthusiastic manner. I have been a fan of the Coerver method for several years now so while I was aware of the drills, the course gave lots of information to bear in mind when teaching the 1 v 1 sessions”.

“I found the session on mind set very interesting & the decision to include a session with the academy U10′s was a good one as it was very informative to see a session progressed from ball mastery to a game situation using 1v1 techniques”.

“I am looking forward to attending the youth diploma next year, overall the course was excellent as a 1 day coach education workshop & I would recommend the coerver drills & methods to any coach or young player, many thanks for an enjoyable day”.

Following the huge success of the Coerver® Youth Diploma courses in the UK over the last 4 years which has seen over 1200 coaches from all corners of the globe take part, Coerver® Coaching UK was selected as one of only two regions that would host the new Coerver® Youth Diploma 2 course globally in 2015.

Alongside Coerver® USA who will be hosting a Youth Diploma 2 course later in the year, Coerver® UK will be hosting a Youth Diploma 2 course in London at Fulham FC in June 2015 which will be delivered by Coerver® co-founder Alf Galustian and in partnership with adidas® and FourFourTwo Performance.

Following a registration of interest period in December exclusively for Youth Diploma 1 attendees, a priority booking window opened on Monday for the London course and within 48 hours the course was Sold Out.

Coerver® UK Director Scott Wright said “We were absolutely delighted to have been chosen to host one of only two Youth Diploma 2 courses that will take place globally in 2015 following the huge success of our courses over the last four years. We are as equally pleased that after just 48 hours of the priority booking window opening, the course is sold out which shows the huge demand that there is for knowledge in the Coerver programme”.

“We will have coaches attending from all corners of the globe as well as our own staff and this will certainly be a fantastic coach education event where we will be presenting our new approach to the team game which we are really excited about”.

Coerver® co-founder Alf Galustian (see above image), who will be the lead instructor on the course said
“We are very happy to introduce our new Youth Diploma 2 course which is especially designed for coaches who have attended Youth Diploma 1”.

“In this new course, we are going to focus on developing a team style, what skills individually and in small groups do players need?, What do you teach them?, How do you teach them?, not only the skills and tactics, but also the mental and attitude aspects”.

“During this course I’m going to share with attendees, some of my personal experiences from working with some of the greatest clubs and federations in the world”. “A particular focus of the course is to show you how to develop individual players that are multi-positional, both attackers and defenders, with all practices and games being adaptable to players of all ages and abilities”.

“We are really looking forward to delivering this new course and believe that our approach to developing a team style will be of great benefit to those that will be in attendance at Fulham FC in June”.
