Coerver Scotland and Ireland kids dream of joining the future BENFICA ELITE DEVELOPMENT SQUAD

Coerver kids from Scotland and Ireland 2005, 2004 2003 2002s took part in the first Coerver kids training camp at SL Benfica with Coerver the youngsters had a life changing experience as they were put through their paces with Gordon Craig -Austin Speight Coerver Directors and with Jorge Corderio, Benfica Technical academy coach and former player under Jose Morinho when he was at Benfica. The boys got a chance to train everyday and meet the Coerver/ Benfica Elite development squad.

Coerver® Coaching are delighted to announce that the NEW Coerver® Coaching Youth Diploma 2 course will be taking place during November 2015 in Glasgow Scotland, in association with our global partner adidas® and our presenting partner FourFourTwo Performance at the training complex of Coerver® Partner Club Rangers FC. This is only the second Youth Diploma 2 course to take place globally.

The Coerver® Coaching Youth Diploma 2 has been developed from over 31 years of knowledge and work with the leading federations, clubs, managers and star names in International Football.

Youth Diploma 2 Course Overview

The Coerver® Coaching Youth Diploma 2 course expands on the knowledge gained from the Youth Diploma 1 course with a focus on how to develop a team style through individual and small group skills teaching both in and out of possession.

The Coerver ® Coaching Youth Diploma 2 is a 2-day course that has been broken down into 4 modules that will be presented through lecture presentations & practical demonstrations:

Module 1- The Coerver® Approach to Team Play (Theory) Developing the Coerver® Player “Code” (Practical)

Module 2- The Coerver® Team Code – Box/Trap Defence (Theory) The Box/Trap Defence (Practical)

Youth Diploma 2 Course Instructor

Alfred Galustian started his soccer career as a young player for Wimbledon. He is the Co-Founder and International Director of Coerver® Coaching, and has been largely responsible for building the program Globally.

To date Alfred has worked as a Coach Instructor with 17 national federations including the French, English, Japanese and Australian.

Alfred has also worked with over 50 top professional clubs including Bayern Munich FC, Manchester City FC, Real Madrid CF, Olympique Marseille, Arsenal FC and AC Milan.

During the 2010/11 Season Alfred was the Specialist Skills Coaching Advisor to the Premier League.
Alf was appointed Specialist Skills Advisor to the Premier LeagueTM during the 2010/11 season, assigned to help develop the next generation of Elite football coaches in this country, further endorsing his reputation for expertise in technical skills teaching.

Alf says of the course "I am very happy to introduce our new Youth Diploma 2 course which is especially designed for coaches who have attended Youth Diploma 1. In this new course, we are going to focus on developing a team style; what skills individually and in small groups do players need? What do you teach them? Youth Diploma 1 Great few days at Benfica with Alf & Gordon

Over 30 coaches attended our first ever Youth Diploma at SL Benfica with Benfica Staff and local coaches taking in what was a great 3 day event. Was also great for the Elite International Program players to take part as runners for the event. Dates to follow on our next Diploma at the club .

The first ever Elite International Benfica Program finished at the weekend with great success and feedback from all 20 players from all over the Globe made up predominately with Coerver Coaching Scotland, South Africa and USA players spent the whole month of October at the club. Already plans are moving forward for the next gathering with many players already asked back March/ April 2016 .We will through demand have two squads for boys 2002, 2001/ 2000/,99s and 98s . The players take part in a full 1 month program living and breathing Benfica everyday with double sessions, individual technical and tactical, gym, injury prevention, matches against
Benfica and other competition teams all aligned to the players study. With players also learning Portuguese in classes three times per week.

Coerver® Coaching players join the SL Benfica International Development program

On October 1^st, sixteen Coerver® Coaching players from Scotland, South Africa and USA travelled to Portugal to form the SL Benfica International Development Program.

The month long programme will afford players the chance to train and play as an SL Benfica player. They will work intensively with the club Academy coaches, whilst being based at the Portugese Champions Caixa Futebol Campus.

Week 1 Diary

DAY 1 Today the players arrived from the respective countries. All were welcome to the fantastic hotel with the group setting in and enjoying dinner together.

DAY 2 The morning began with the short journey to our home for the next month Caixa Futebol Campus. The players are put through their first training session today. A high tempo technical session starting with Coerver® Ball Mastery.

DAY 3 An action packed day, began with us taking in an offensive masterlass from SL Benfica U15 championship squad in the morning against Sporting Lisbon. After lunch we watched the Benfica B team before our first evening tactical session. Another high tempo session with the boys showing great work ethic. Giving coaches a chance to analyse and set some areas of focus before the first game on Wednesday.

DAY 4 A well deserved rest day for players giving a chance to socialise and get to know their new international team mates more. The Boys are working really hard and have also been busy with their studies.

DAY 5 Another full day today with a tactical training session in the morning in preparation for Wednesday’s game. The players also had their first lesson in Portuguese after lunch before a technical training session in the afternoon. This afternoon we welcomed our second Goalkeeper who arrived for his first session from Livingston FC in Scotland.

DAY 6 The First matchday, the boys were naturally excited about their first match, after setting some objectives and goals over the past few days. A lot of hard work and some great moments produced for the boys a very good performance with the SL Benfica Elite International development program v SL Benfica game.It was great for the boys to come out the game with a win and even more lessons learned

DAY 7 Full schedule today after last nights game, the players had the chance to meet with SL Benfica Academy players, as part of SL Benfica family. Today also included both technical training and tactical training, preparing for their first away game on Saturday.

One of the young players from Scotland is Archie Roue who has been part of the Coerver® programme since age 7, he said 'For me this is a great opportunity which links both Coerver® and Benfica together. The technical sessions are about ball mastery and 1v1 which is something we focus on at Coerver®. The tempo and the standard of the boys is very high which helps me develop my transitional play but mainly it has boosted my confidence.'

Coerver® Scotland and Portugal Director Gordon Craig said 'What an amazing few days so far for the players. It’s a great opportunity for them, this is an experience that will not only develop the players in a best v best culture but also see them grow in stature due to the quality time we are afforded to work with them. Seeing young players from all over the world mainly from Coerver® mix so well is fantastic. It will give these boys friends for life and no doubt be a massive positive life experience for the'

THE Rangers Academy has entered into an exciting new partnership with world-renowned Coerver Coaching which will see it become a Coerver partner club. Coerver coaching is used by many top football clubs including Bayern Munich and Benfica and was created by legendary Dutch footballer Weil Coerver. It focuses on the development of individual skill and small group play, with the ultimate aim to create confident and creative players that value winning but not more than character and performance. The partnership will see Director of Coerver Coaching in Scotland Gordon Craig work with Rangers Children’s Academy where he will deliver sessions on a weekly basis as well as contributing to coach education and curriculum design in the Academy. Craig spoke to RangersTV to explain the partnership and began by telling us: “I’ve been working with Coerver for over 25 years now, so it’s been my life’s work almost. I’ve known Craig Mulholland for a number of years and we have been talking for some time now about the work we do and what I’ve done over the years. “I’ve seen such an array of talented young players come through that programme, so it excites me, and I’ve always been about developing creative, strong, aggressive, technically great two-footed players, so when Craig approached me to speak about the Academy and Rangers, it excited me to come in here to work with the programme that’s in place to hopefully develop a curriculum for eight to 12 year olds. “That’s a kind of ‘golden age’ of youngster, and it’s vital we get them at that early age and do the right type of work – one v ones, ball mastery and first touch. “That’s what I do, and over the years I’ve coached a lot of coaches around the world and have seen and been at a lot of clubs with Coerver, and bringing it now to a club like this in Scotland is fantastic, and we aim to create that type of player.” The change in philosophy at Rangers has been felt from top to bottom, and Craig can see similarities between the Ibrox side and Portuguese giants Benfica, where he has worked in the past. He continued: “Rangers are a huge club, just like Benfica, and seeing the players out there and the creative, attacking style of football they play, it’s the same concept I see here at Rangers from the top down. “It’s exciting for me to see the club going in that direction to create an offensive, aggressive type of player who can attack and cause problems for the opposition, and that’s what I’m all about. “The game is always evolving and always changing, but the timing for me is perfect. I was at the game on Saturday and I enjoyed it – some of the players I saw there offensively I can see an eight to 12 year-old trying to replicate.” Head of Rangers Academy Craig Mulholland added: “When we took over the Academy in January, one of the things we wanted to focus on was creating a technical, creative player. “Someone who would be strong in one v ones and would have a trick and a move, and we think the Coerver coaching method gives us a real chance to do that. “Gordon Craig is the director of Coerver Coaching in Scotland, and him and I have been in dialogue for some time, and he is now going to come in and work in our Childrens’ Academy, predominantly in the 8-12 year-old age group, and he will work specifically with the players and we will also have a coach education aspect to the whole academy which will benefit all the players. “If you look at Scottish Football just now, there aren’t many players who get the fans right on the edge of their seat like Nathan has done since he has come to the club. “What we want to do is produce more players in the Academy like that who can then fit in to a Rangers style of play and have the behaviours and characteristics that we want in a Rangers player profile. “There are some great clubs around the world involved with Coerver. Gordon works closely with Benfica, and Bayern Munich are another club who use their methods. “For Rangers to be a partner club is great, and we too will help Coerver achieve some of their aims in Scotland as well as at Rangers we have a fantastic curriculum. “Jim McNee is head of our Children’s Academy and does a great job, so hopefully we can share some of our expertise with Gordon, and it will be a win-win both ways.”
